Healthcare software for patients, clinicians and compliance
Nexlantic designs and builds patient-facing and clinical systems that handle protected health information with the care it demands. Our first delivered project, in 2018, was healthcare software, and the sector has shaped how we work ever since.
Designed around
- HIPAA
- HITECH
- HL7 v2 and FHIR
- ONC interoperability rules
- WCAG 2.2
Software built for the realities of healthcare
Healthcare software has to serve three audiences at once: patients who expect the ease of consumer apps, clinicians who need accurate information without extra clicks, and compliance teams who must prove every access to protected health information was authorized. We design for all three from the first wireframe, with role-based access, audit logging and encryption treated as product features rather than afterthoughts.
Integration is where most healthcare projects stall. Records live in EHRs, labs, imaging systems and billing platforms that were never meant to talk to each other. Our engineers work with HL7 v2 feeds, FHIR APIs and vendor SDKs to connect those systems, so a scheduling change, a lab result or a telehealth note lands where the care team will actually see it.
What makes building for healthcare hard
The constraints we plan for before the first line of code.
Protected health information everywhere
Every screen, log, export and backup that touches PHI falls under HIPAA, so access control and audit trails must be designed in rather than bolted on.
Fragmented systems
EHRs, lab systems, imaging and billing rarely share a data model; the integration layer often decides whether a project succeeds.
Clinician time is scarce
Interfaces that add clicks get worked around. Clinical tools have to fit existing workflows and surface the right data first.
Patients expect consumer-grade apps
Appointment booking, results and messaging must work on any phone and remain accessible to older and less confident users.
What we design and deliver for healthcare
Patient portals and mobile apps
Appointment scheduling, secure messaging, results, prescriptions and payments in one place, on web and native mobile.
Telehealth platforms
Video visits with waiting rooms, consent capture, e-prescribing hooks and visit notes written back to the record.
EHR and lab integration
HL7 v2 and FHIR interfaces that sync demographics, orders, results and documents between systems.
Practice and care management
Multi-site scheduling, referral tracking, care plans and task queues for clinical and front-desk staff.
Clinical and operational dashboards
Power BI and custom reporting on throughput, no-shows, outcomes and revenue cycle metrics.
Medical device connectivity
Ingest readings from monitoring devices and wearables into patient records with alert rules.

Healthcare questions, answered
Answers to what prospective clients in this sector ask first.
We design healthcare systems around the HIPAA Security and Privacy Rules: encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access, audit logs, session controls and breach-response procedures. Compliance ultimately belongs to the covered entity, so we document the controls we implement and support your risk assessment and business associate agreement.
Yes. We work with HL7 v2 interfaces, FHIR R4 APIs and vendor-specific SDKs to exchange demographics, scheduling, orders, results and clinical documents. The approach depends on what your EHR exposes and the access your vendor allows, which we confirm during discovery.
Wherever your policy requires. We typically deploy on AWS or Azure in the region you specify, under a business associate agreement with the cloud provider, with encrypted storage, private networking and logging configured for HIPAA. On-premises or hybrid hosting is possible when a client needs it.
Yes. Telehealth modules we build include video visits, virtual waiting rooms, consent capture, intake forms and visit notes that write back to the patient record. We use established video infrastructure rather than building media servers from scratch, which keeps call quality high and costs predictable.
